We Are Pushing The Reunion Of 2009!

We are reproducing here the letter earlier sent out by Conrado Salvador asking for your support for a reunion in 2009 - our class' golden anniversary. Many have voiced their support for the reunion but, unfortnately, practically no info / survey sheet has been received by Perlas nor the other members of the secretariat.

Only if you return the survey can we guarantee a successful reunion so we appeal to you to send in a duly accomplished survey sheet this time. Yes, please send in another, even if you've sent one before ta napukaw sa daydiayen! If it is any easier, you may email this to me and I'll make sure that it gets to the Secretariat on time. Well ok, you may snail mail it to my address below.

It is important that we reach all classmates so please, please, please: if you meet anyone do send us the contact number/s, email, or snail mail.

Let us take a moment and remember Gariong (Leodegario Valdez.) He was a member of the 2009 Reunion Secretariat, and we know that he died a couple of weeks ago. He wouldn't have missed this reunion for all the world but a Higher Being called him home. Let us meet again before we are called home.

Ingat!

SUBJECT : PROPOSED GOLDEN REUNION ON 2009
FOR SMC-NVHS HIGH SCHOOLS BATCH 1959.

Dear Classmate

I am asking you to open your heart and mind to be able to feel the real objective of my letter-proposal pertaining to the proposed joint Golden Reunion on 2009 for SMC-NVHS High School Batch 1959, where you and I belong.

It's almost 46 years now, since you and I, left the portals of our Alma Mater and we never had a chance of seeing each other again simply because we trekked our respective paths of life and directions in pursuit of our youthful dreams.

As, you and I, look back to our high school days, we recall the echoes of youthful laughter and giggles coming from young and innocent-looking youngsters in the school campus (with you and I, of course!). A common saying and considered a factual adage is. "The happiest moments in the life of an individual are the high school days." Indeed, it is during these years that youthful dreams were built and we have felt some "queer" heartbeats (you know it!)!

I consider our high school Batch as the Glorious Batch '59! We all know that Batch 59 was the focal point of transition from the old standard educational system to the new era of modern technology. And come to think of it. We survived! It is not- how rich you are now - or how successful you are - or how famous you have become. What matters is how you and I survived those long years of sacrifices - and WE ARE STILL ALIVE! So, I ask you to join the ONCE-IN-A LIFETIME REUNION in 2009.! Jointly, let us march down the roads of Bayombong and show our fellow Vizcayanos that we are still alive!

We have at least three (3) year planning period for this: ONCE-IN-A LIFETIME GOLDEN REUNION for SMC-NVHS Batch 59.

I ask you to spread this proposal. The success of the plan will depend on your attendance including of course how you will help us spread the news to other classmates/schoolmates whose addresses are not available to us.

You will find attached an Information/comment sheet which you have to accomplish and then mail back to the Secretariat for our final assessment. Likewise, I am enclosing extra copies of my letter-proposal and Information/comment sheet with no name and address of any of our classmates. Please have them Xeroxed and indicate therein the name of our classmates whose address is known to you. Mail it to him/her but leave of Information Sheet blank for him/her to accomplish. Remember to attach your short letter to him/her, asking him/her to do the same based on the same pattern.

Within year 2006, I am optimistic that the Secretariat and I, will have a sizeable group who responded.

Spread the news with the spirit of Batch '59!

Sincerely yours,

(Original signed)
CONDRING SALVADOR

Where walks my true love? Where can I find her? Are we just dreams . . . . . . . . . . .

My heart tells me today will be the day!

Hello Jun, thanks for your kind thoughts on the passing of my brother. Very sad indeed. He was burried in San Fernando, Pampanga, where my sister in law plans to retire.

Pasensiya na lang, I was not able to call when I was in Manila. We did go to Bayombong also since I would not be there for Nov 1st. We visited our old house in the old hospital and Helen Soberano, my cousin, brought us at the back of St Mary'swhere she lives. Great improvements in Bayombong, although, it was kind of dark already to see. We spent the night at my sister's place in Bambang.

I arrived here Saturday night and am back to work now half awake trying to catch up with work. You and your wife have a great week. Hello to Terri as well. She said she is already having fun. That's great.

Take care.

Minda

Sorry to learn of Gario's demise. Am glad he came to the gathering we had at my family house in Bayombong which Belo and a few others attended.

Barring any physical setback, I plan to attend the 2009 reunion. I responded to the original form given me. I think I mailed it to Perlas. I have the feeling from talking to our classmates at the reunion in Tacoma that most of us will try our best to be there. Since Terri will be there for 6 months, it'd be a good idea if you initiate a gathering of classmates to map out activities for the reunion, cost, site etc. I'll work on convincing our classmates here to attend. For a starter, trace all our classmates' whereabouts, get their addresses then send mailings once a year. A Xmas/Holiday postcard mailed in Dec. this year is a good idea. For our school reunion in Tacoma, we (my siblings, kin, & 3 other alumni and I) began planning 3 years before the event itself. It'll probably take this long even for our class reunion if we want a high percentage of attendance.

Thanks for keep me posted on happenings there.

Take care,

Judy

Leodegario Valdes, RIP

Yesterday I got this text message from Terri: Gario died and was buried this am according to Perlas. Seems he's suffering from cancer and has been in and out of the hospital these last months.

Gariong was a close friend in our younger years, I can't believe that he has gone.

On a happier note, Terri has touched base with Benedicto Ligot and Isabelo de la Cruz and we have their landline numbers now.
Conding Joins the Loop!

Sorry but I call him Conding, without the "r." Like me he has aged, but the figure was very much the old friend I knew. He has survived two heart attacks that left him with a visible limp. Otherwise he is alright, still intense in his ways, still wanting to change the world.

Saturday the 7th of October, Terri and I met at Goldilocks on the ground floor of SM North (aka SM West, or SM North Edsa.) We had earlier agreed with Gerardo "Gerry" Cabreros and Conrado "Conding" Salvador to meet there between 6 and 7 pm. Terri, still on American Time arrived first and I followed shortly. There was a raucous event going on at the Food Court on the basement and it was quite noisy where we were so we decided to move to Barrio Fiesta on the second floor. Thank heavens for cellphones, we just called (or texted) Conding and Gerry.

Above photo was taken at SM North Barrio Fiesta with (from left) Jun Mania, Terri Lacson, Conrado Salvador and Gerardo Cabreros.

Conding came as we left Goldilocks, Gerry after we've settled in Barrio Fiesta. After over forty years, I am happy to write that, inspite of some changes, I was able to recognize the two. We had a pleasant dinner after which we discussed matters about our group and the coming reunion in 2009. Conding gave us copies of the invitation and the feedback sheet which he had sent/given out a while back. He rued the fact that he has, so far, not received any response on the matter. Tita and I pledged our support for a reunion in 2009 and that we will start to work on ways to improve the situation. The meeting was adjourned at 9pm.

What we have to do:
For starters, please change Conding's email address to badong_42@yahoo.com . There is an underscore between "g" and "4" thus "badong_42" . I am afraid that if you who sent something earlier to badong42@yahoo.com and you think it is important, you will have to send it again, this but time to: badong_42@yahoo.com .

Minda's Brother Ben Has Passed Away

Minda is leaving for the Phil. tonight because her brother Ben died last Monday, Oct. 2. He had been on dialysis for quite sometime now.

My prayers are for the deceased, including Tittong Tugab and their families. We are all getting there, our cycle is almost up............... I spoke to Fely who was shocked to hear that Tittong, her cousin died.

Glad to hear that you got together with Tita already. I can not believe that after 4 decades we are trying to get in touch. Thanks for starting and keeping the website going and email updates.

Gerardo "Gerry" Cabreros Has Made Contact!
I got to talk to Gerardo "Gerry" Cabreros last night and we shared a few good laughs. So what do you talk about after not seeing each other for some 40 years? Anything under the sun! He married a girl from Aklan though they met and married here in GMA. They've had 3 kids, one is now an MD, another a CPA, and (not sure) a computer expert! Oh, and two grand children. They live in the San Juan of JVE (Joseph V. Ejercito) land. He has no email yet but said he would get one to stay in touch. He's retired forester now but still has some consultancy going.

(Private) Storm Terri Hits RP and Cebu With Devastating Force!
Well, Terri is our friend Terri Lacson and while she can really have a mean wallop- she can hold a gang of ne'er- do-wells at bay in her job in the US, doesn't she?- she's a very loved, kindly aunt/sister/cousin with her family!

To get back to the story: Terri's plane was landing at NAIA when it received instructions to abort and fly to Taiwan and let Milenio finish his swan song! That was around noon Thursday the 28th, and she was finally allowed entry into RP on Friday. No problem except that all the diverted flights decided to return all at the same time, and it was chaos! Welcome back, Terri!

And she called me as soon as she got was settled in Marikina at Jori's (her cousin) place, and we decided me and the Missus would join their family Bienvenida the next day, night- actually, at Kamayan West. And so we did, enjoyed the smorgasbord offering I mean, on that Saturday night. Although business establishments were lit brightly thanks to individual generators, most parts of West Avenue and surrounds, were pith dark- Timog and most of the way to and back home reflected the mood: Milenio was one hell of a guy/storm!

It's all quiet now here in GMA, Terri was supposed to fly out to Cebu yesterday ..... Let's give sometime for the news to come in from Cebu.

Those were the good news, now the bad news:

Ernesto "Tittong" Tugab, RIP

In our drive to "get in touch" with former high school friends, I thought that I'd work on Tittong after I ran into his brother Mateo "Chiching" in the "Names Database" program. below is the exchange of emails between Chiching and me

Hello, Chiching.

That is sad, very sad, indeed. You know, I know a little about that area of Novaliches- Camarin, Almar and Bagong Silang- and I was hoping that one of these days I'd go drop in on Tittong and really surprise him! That would have been nice, though getting directions to that area can be a problem, but I've found a few people/locations in that area before! Like I used to deliver ATM spare parts to Metrobank Camarin! It's the bank at the junction of that busy crossing where you have the (relatively) new mall.

"Dak'sang gasat nga banag!" we'd say. My condolence to you and Tittong's loved ones- to be sure I will pray for him, it's the least I can do for him.

I'll email you from time to time, if you don't mind. Regards to your family.

Hello Jun,

Honestly, I don,t know how to begin. Anyway, I visited titong September 28 in Bagung Silang Caloocan. He had a stroke. I told him about your e-mail and how much you wanted to talk to him and get in touch with him. He was very happy you stlll remember him after all these years. That was the last time I saw him. He passed away Oct 1. His remains will be brought to Bayombong Oct 3 and he will be buried on Saturday Oct 7. I It's a pity you didn't have the chance toconverse with him. Please pray for him.

I feel very sad that your efforts to get in touch with Titong would end like this.

With regrets, Chiching.

Thank you for your news on Tittong and my apologies for not responding earlier: I was hoping to write that I've finally talked to him on the phone when I email you next, but it seems I'll have to postpone my contact now- it may have a negative effect on him.

News about SMC alumni, the former Miss Teresita dela Cruz (SMC Hi 59) will be returning to NV hopefully for good around end of this September. She's a younger sister to Jess and Rogelio (I guess) de la Cruz and they lived in the our row of houses in the Centro.

I hope that Tittong fully recovers, and soon, too. Regards to you and your family.
