Finally had a chance to open the website and saw the 2 reunion pictures. Thanks for sharing. We are passed 60’s, gone are the innocent baby faces. I will have a hard time of identifying our classmates it’s been over 5 decades so the golden reunion is a great idea and to look forward……

That message came a day or so before this issue. And I would very much agree with you, Alice, as we receive a few more pictures of that gathering and I am placed on the spot!

It was bright sunny on that Saturday morning when we arrived at Terri's coconut grove for the mini reunion hosted by Terri. There was no threatening cloud in the sky the whole day.

Med is in Good Old RP!

Med is in town, and we will see her on Sunday the 3rd of December! "We" most probably will be the foursome of Terri, Gerry, Conding and moi. Venue is still not settled but I am quite sure that we will meet.

Med had said that we get the whole crowd that came to Bonfal to their place but that will not be possible on short notice. No, I do not mean that they'd even come with ample time allowed, either!

The two following pictures were taken on November 4, during Terri's Mini Reunion. I tried labeling the attendees but failed. Anybody want to help?

It was a pleasure talking to Virgilio "Gil" Guillermo and Evangeline "Vangie" de los Angeles over the phone this week. Gil is in Florida and Vangie in California. And Natalie, daughter of Elnora Gurat-Guyod, too.

Trusty Tita has sent an SMS message that she has received word that Mr. Ordonez' passed away on Sunday the 12th of November 2006 - RP time - and that Med is unable to travel. We hope to give you more news as they come in.

SMC Class ’59 Reunion of 4 November 2006
Terri’s Coconut Grove, Km 267 Bonfal, Nueva Vizcaya

Terri called it a mini reunion but in so far as bonding with long unseen classmates was concerned, it was a MEGA event! It started at 11 when the guests started to arrive and quickly went on to lunch. Right after lunch, the discussions began. It was resolved that SMC will hold its own 50th anniversary reunion - not jointly with NVHS - in the summer of 2009. The exact date was left for the secretariat to decide. In attendance were:

Teresita "Terri" Lacson
Perlas Bangad-Olid
Gerardo "Gerry" T. Cabreros
Purificacion "Puring" Cansino-Liquigan
Carmen Covita-Cortez
Isabelo "Belong" Y. de la Cruz
Felicisimo "Dolfo" M. Juan, Jr.
Benedicto "Tito" Ligot
Leticia Logan-Infante
Eufrocino N. Mania, Jr.
Herminigilda Marcelino-Baliton
Leona Mateo-Robles
Emeteria Paragas-Benabice
Herminigilda Ringor-Corpuz
Ana Araceli "Cely" Salimpade-Talay
Conrado "Condring" Salvador
Rosario "Chato" Tito-Macababbad

From the US, Med Ordonez-Guy called Terri's GSM and talked to a few of us, me included. Thanks for the call, Med - it sure livened up the gathering.

We are still waiting for the pictures to post in our group page on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SMCHigh59/ . Data on the attendees will also be posted on the group page shortly.

We Are Pushing The Reunion Of 2009!

We are reproducing here the letter earlier sent out by Conrado Salvador asking for your support for a reunion in 2009 - our class' golden anniversary. Many have voiced their support for the reunion but, unfortnately, practically no info / survey sheet has been received by Perlas nor the other members of the secretariat.

Only if you return the survey can we guarantee a successful reunion so we appeal to you to send in a duly accomplished survey sheet this time. Yes, please send in another, even if you've sent one before ta napukaw sa daydiayen! If it is any easier, you may email this to me and I'll make sure that it gets to the Secretariat on time. Well ok, you may snail mail it to my address below.

It is important that we reach all classmates so please, please, please: if you meet anyone do send us the contact number/s, email, or snail mail.

Let us take a moment and remember Gariong (Leodegario Valdez.) He was a member of the 2009 Reunion Secretariat, and we know that he died a couple of weeks ago. He wouldn't have missed this reunion for all the world but a Higher Being called him home. Let us meet again before we are called home.

Ingat!

SUBJECT : PROPOSED GOLDEN REUNION ON 2009
FOR SMC-NVHS HIGH SCHOOLS BATCH 1959.

Dear Classmate

I am asking you to open your heart and mind to be able to feel the real objective of my letter-proposal pertaining to the proposed joint Golden Reunion on 2009 for SMC-NVHS High School Batch 1959, where you and I belong.

It's almost 46 years now, since you and I, left the portals of our Alma Mater and we never had a chance of seeing each other again simply because we trekked our respective paths of life and directions in pursuit of our youthful dreams.

As, you and I, look back to our high school days, we recall the echoes of youthful laughter and giggles coming from young and innocent-looking youngsters in the school campus (with you and I, of course!). A common saying and considered a factual adage is. "The happiest moments in the life of an individual are the high school days." Indeed, it is during these years that youthful dreams were built and we have felt some "queer" heartbeats (you know it!)!

I consider our high school Batch as the Glorious Batch '59! We all know that Batch 59 was the focal point of transition from the old standard educational system to the new era of modern technology. And come to think of it. We survived! It is not- how rich you are now - or how successful you are - or how famous you have become. What matters is how you and I survived those long years of sacrifices - and WE ARE STILL ALIVE! So, I ask you to join the ONCE-IN-A LIFETIME REUNION in 2009.! Jointly, let us march down the roads of Bayombong and show our fellow Vizcayanos that we are still alive!

We have at least three (3) year planning period for this: ONCE-IN-A LIFETIME GOLDEN REUNION for SMC-NVHS Batch 59.

I ask you to spread this proposal. The success of the plan will depend on your attendance including of course how you will help us spread the news to other classmates/schoolmates whose addresses are not available to us.

You will find attached an Information/comment sheet which you have to accomplish and then mail back to the Secretariat for our final assessment. Likewise, I am enclosing extra copies of my letter-proposal and Information/comment sheet with no name and address of any of our classmates. Please have them Xeroxed and indicate therein the name of our classmates whose address is known to you. Mail it to him/her but leave of Information Sheet blank for him/her to accomplish. Remember to attach your short letter to him/her, asking him/her to do the same based on the same pattern.

Within year 2006, I am optimistic that the Secretariat and I, will have a sizeable group who responded.

Spread the news with the spirit of Batch '59!

Sincerely yours,

(Original signed)

Hello Jun, thanks for your kind thoughts on the passing of my brother. Very sad indeed. He was burried in San Fernando, Pampanga, where my sister in law plans to retire.

Pasensiya na lang, I was not able to call when I was in Manila. We did go to Bayombong also since I would not be there for Nov 1st. We visited our old house in the old hospital and Helen Soberano, my cousin, brought us at the back of St Mary'swhere she lives. Great improvements in Bayombong, although, it was kind of dark already to see. We spent the night at my sister's place in Bambang.

I arrived here Saturday night and am back to work now half awake trying to catch up with work. You and your wife have a great week. Hello to Terri as well. She said she is already having fun. That's great.

Take care.

Sorry to learn of Gario's demise. Am glad he came to the gathering we had at my family house in Bayombong which Belo and a few others attended.

Barring any physical setback, I plan to attend the 2009 reunion. I responded to the original form given me. I think I mailed it to Perlas. I have the feeling from talking to our classmates at the reunion in Tacoma that most of us will try our best to be there. Since Terri will be there for 6 months, it'd be a good idea if you initiate a gathering of classmates to map out activities for the reunion, cost, site etc. I'll work on convincing our classmates here to attend. For a starter, trace all our classmates' whereabouts, get their addresses then send mailings once a year. A Xmas/Holiday postcard mailed in Dec. this year is a good idea. For our school reunion in Tacoma, we (my siblings, kin, & 3 other alumni and I) began planning 3 years before the event itself. It'll probably take this long even for our class reunion if we want a high percentage of attendance.

Thanks for keep me posted on happenings there.

Take care,

Judy

Leodegario Valdes, RIP

Yesterday I got this text message from Terri: Gario died and was buried this am according to Perlas. Seems he's suffering from cancer and has been in and out of the hospital these last months.

Gariong was a close friend in our younger years, I can't believe that he has gone.

On a happier note, Terri has touched base with Benedicto Ligot and Isabelo de la Cruz and we have their landline numbers now.
Conding Joins the Loop!

Sorry but I call him Conding, without the "r." Like me he has aged, but the figure was very much the old friend I knew. He has survived two heart attacks that left him with a visible limp. Otherwise he is alright, still intense in his ways, still wanting to change the world.

Saturday the 7th of October, Terri and I met at Goldilocks on the ground floor of SM North (aka SM West, or SM North Edsa.) We had earlier agreed with Gerardo "Gerry" Cabreros and Conrado "Conding" Salvador to meet there between 6 and 7 pm. Terri, still on American Time arrived first and I followed shortly. There was a raucous event going on at the Food Court on the basement and it was quite noisy where we were so we decided to move to Barrio Fiesta on the second floor. Thank heavens for cellphones, we just called (or texted) Conding and Gerry.

Above photo was taken at SM North Barrio Fiesta with (from left) Jun Mania, Terri Lacson, Conrado Salvador and Gerardo Cabreros.

Conding came as we left Goldilocks, Gerry after we've settled in Barrio Fiesta. After over forty years, I am happy to write that, inspite of some changes, I was able to recognize the two. We had a pleasant dinner after which we discussed matters about our group and the coming reunion in 2009. Conding gave us copies of the invitation and the feedback sheet which he had sent/given out a while back. He rued the fact that he has, so far, not received any response on the matter. Tita and I pledged our support for a reunion in 2009 and that we will start to work on ways to improve the situation. The meeting was adjourned at 9pm.

What we have to do:
For starters, please change Conding's email address to badong_42@yahoo.com . There is an underscore between "g" and "4" thus "badong_42" . I am afraid that if you who sent something earlier to badong42@yahoo.com and you think it is important, you will have to send it again, this but time to: badong_42@yahoo.com .

Minda is leaving for the Phil. tonight because her brother Ben died last Monday, Oct. 2. He had been on dialysis for quite sometime now.

My prayers are for the deceased, including Tittong Tugab and their families. We are all getting there, our cycle is almost up............... I spoke to Fely who was shocked to hear that Tittong, her cousin died.

Glad to hear that you got together with Tita already. I can not believe that after 4 decades we are trying to get in touch. Thanks for starting and keeping the website going and email updates.

Gerardo "Gerry" Cabreros Has Made Contact!
I got to talk to Gerardo "Gerry" Cabreros last night and we shared a few good laughs. So what do you talk about after not seeing each other for some 40 years? Anything under the sun! He married a girl from Aklan though they met and married here in GMA. They've had 3 kids, one is now an MD, another a CPA, and (not sure) a computer expert! Oh, and two grand children. They live in the San Juan of JVE (Joseph V. Ejercito) land. He has no email yet but said he would get one to stay in touch. He's retired forester now but still has some consultancy going.

(Private) Storm Terri Hits RP and Cebu With Devastating Force!
Well, Terri is our friend Terri Lacson and while she can really have a mean wallop- she can hold a gang of ne'er- do-wells at bay in her job in the US, doesn't she?- she's a very loved, kindly aunt/sister/cousin with her family!

To get back to the story: Terri's plane was landing at NAIA when it received instructions to abort and fly to Taiwan and let Milenio finish his swan song! That was around noon Thursday the 28th, and she was finally allowed entry into RP on Friday. No problem except that all the diverted flights decided to return all at the same time, and it was chaos! Welcome back, Terri!

And she called me as soon as she got was settled in Marikina at Jori's (her cousin) place, and we decided me and the Missus would join their family Bienvenida the next day, night- actually, at Kamayan West. And so we did, enjoyed the smorgasbord offering I mean, on that Saturday night. Although business establishments were lit brightly thanks to individual generators, most parts of West Avenue and surrounds, were pith dark- Timog and most of the way to and back home reflected the mood: Milenio was one hell of a guy/storm!

It's all quiet now here in GMA, Terri was supposed to fly out to Cebu yesterday ..... Let's give sometime for the news to come in from Cebu.

Those were the good news, now the bad news:

Ernesto "Tittong" Tugab, RIP

In our drive to "get in touch" with former high school friends, I thought that I'd work on Tittong after I ran into his brother Mateo "Chiching" in the "Names Database" program. below is the exchange of emails between Chiching and me

Hello, Chiching.

That is sad, very sad, indeed. You know, I know a little about that area of Novaliches- Camarin, Almar and Bagong Silang- and I was hoping that one of these days I'd go drop in on Tittong and really surprise him! That would have been nice, though getting directions to that area can be a problem, but I've found a few people/locations in that area before! Like I used to deliver ATM spare parts to Metrobank Camarin! It's the bank at the junction of that busy crossing where you have the (relatively) new mall.

"Dak'sang gasat nga banag!" we'd say. My condolence to you and Tittong's loved ones- to be sure I will pray for him, it's the least I can do for him.

I'll email you from time to time, if you don't mind. Regards to your family.

Thank you for your news on Tittong and my apologies for not responding earlier: I was hoping to write that I've finally talked to him on the phone when I email you next, but it seems I'll have to postpone my contact now- it may have a negative effect on him.

News about SMC alumni, the former Miss Teresita dela Cruz (SMC Hi 59) will be returning to NV hopefully for good around end of this September. She's a younger sister to Jess and Rogelio (I guess) de la Cruz and they lived in the our row of houses in the Centro.

I hope that Tittong fully recovers, and soon, too. Regards to you and your family.

Hi all,
Got a sad news to all of you, see Fe Tengco Labayen's email below. I know Mandy was hospitalized right after the SMU reunion. It was shocking to the family then, let alone that he is gone. Please include him and also Fe and her family in your daily prayers. Kindly forward this to Perlita and other friends because I do not have my address list here in AZ.

We just left for Arizona the day he died. We could have been there for the family because we live in Daly City but we just missed it. Fe email-ed me a month ago that her husband's situation was not getting any better so I offered to stop by to visit, if she had the chance to let me know where they were. Worry, stress, care of a very sick love one etc. is understandable and enough to keep her busy. Now that he is gone forever, the emptiness in their hearts and home is the most difficult time to face. Let us all be one family and be supportive of each other. We all care!!!!!!!!!

Fe, our sympathy and condolences to you and the family. We will offer 2 masses in his honor meanwhile we are in AZ. I will let you know the dates. Keep in touch.....

We will get back home in Daly City by Oct.5.

God bless,

Alice and Del

Wow, I can't believe we were once upon a time young. I must say sometimes we go thru senior lapse so it is difficult to brainstorm the names of all classmates. It went by fast specially when you see your children and grandchildren. Some of our classmates are also gone way ahead of us. As the saying goes, "people are dying because there must be something good up there". So we better behave........

I can't remember any crush on our classmates but I have a fuuny incident to share. I joined my husband here in US in 1967, then 2 months later he had to leave and finnish his contract overseas. I was alone, so I stayed with the Tenedero Family and Evangeline Delos Angeles here in San Francisco. I can not remember how Evangeline and I met (a former classmate) who was in the US then. He visited us in the Tenedero's residence and would you believe he later proposed....... What was he thinking???? He knew I was married. Hahahaha, I was even pregnant then, belly sticking out of course. Evangeline and I read his love letter ( I never replied) and of course was amazed and joked about it. To this day we laugh at it when Evangeline and I recalls the past.

This is something to share, recall and laugh at the past.

Alice
Thanks for the Memories from Minda!!!

Hello Jun, thanks for sharing the picture from Terri. And, you are right about it. : )

I will not have this email id for long. Royal Philips of Amsterdam, who owns Philips

know the new id's yet.In the meantime, I wish you and your family well.

The December 27, 1965 Reunion Photo!!!

Courtesy of Judy & Terri
Tara! Yesterday when I was young so many lovely things were waiting to be done! Ang gaganda natin noon. ano? Mga batam-bata! Mga inosenteng- inosente! There's Arthur G, Virgilio, Benedicto... Diki, Dolfo, then me. Sorry, can't see much without eyeglasses and I left it at home.
Please tell me by email where your former crush is in this pic, just between you and me and the blog! But what do we look like now, after our tussle with life? Abangan! Say something, Conding. Say something, Perlas! Our classmates are raring for the homecoming of 2009! But around the end of the month, Terri will be home!!! Yep, to her very own place in Bonfal! And it will be a preview of the homecoming.

A 12 Story Structure In Nueva Vizcaya!

Hi, it's me again. The heroes building you told me is in Casat. Many years back when I went to Casat to visit my niece, we passed by a big concrete house surrounded by a concrete fence. I was told it was owned by an arabo. That's the same guy that built this structure that is featured in the news. That's good that he did that. Now Casat will be a tourist spot and will help those people there. I used to teach there and I recall those hills that we use to walk just to get to the school.. Memories. My Principal was Mr. Ammuyutan the brother in law of Fely Tugab. People in Casat were so receptive of us and how can I forget that. Got to close. I'm starting to reminisce too much.

Bye and ingat.
Regards to your family.

Jun, u forgot I don't fly out of LA until the 26th of Sep. I'll be in Manila the 28th. Don't worry, I have a way of looking for that structure you mentioned. I have a lot of look outs and when I find out exactly, I'll email u. Don't forget I will try to find some of our classmates and schedule a get together by the 2 of Nov. It was suppose to be the 1st but that's when we go to the cemetery to pay our respect to our dearly departed. Any request for a pasalubong?

Ok ingat.

Or if u have a better idea about our get together with classmates speak out!

Terri was flying out from there yesterday, so she should be in RP about this time. Anytime soon I expect Terri's voice on my phone- and it won't be long distance! Take care, folks! Jun

Hi All !

We went home in Dec 2005 but I did not see it. We stayed in Bambang, but went to visit our old house in front of Bangan Hill. So maybe it is not Bangan Hill, but near La Torre, you know where there is a reservoir.I did hear a story that a rich Middle Eastern person built a school close to La Torre so his kids could go there. Next time we go home, I will make sure I ask about it. : )

Hi Jun!It's me, Leto. Where are you? Are you in the Philippines or here in North America? I understand there are quite a few of us living here in NA, unfortunately, I only know of those who are in California.

THANKS for all your messages and pictures. Indeed, all who attended the SMU Reunion in Tacoma, Wash. had a great time, me included. I was really glad to have attended. It was great to meet former classmates, schoolmates and townmates. How I wish more of our classmates would have been there. I had not seen Terri since our high school graduation. However, I had a chance to see Fely, Minda, Alice, Nena, Vangie and Cheding a few years ago when we all met at Fely's house. It was unfortunate that Cheding and Med could not be there this time.

Hopefully, we will have as good attendance for the next renion in Las Vegas in 2008.Many at the reunion, I would have recognized immediately, but many I'm afraid have changed in appearance that I felt I needed to have them remind me who they were. However, since we were all from Bayombong, it was wonderful to get re-connected with everyone again. After the reunion, I stayed with Judy for another couple of days and we were able to catch up from where we left off since my last visit with her a few years back.

Of our former classmates, Judy and I keep in touch quite regularly by email, letter or phone.Again, thanks for your messages, I promise to keep in touch.

Take care & best regards,

Leto

Hello Jun!

I am always up to my neck in alligators. Consequently, I am not always able to respond promptly to incoming correspondences. Also, I am a very security-minded, very cautious individual, an idiosyncrasy I developed from over three decades of serving in the military, the U. S. Navy. Hence, I just don't divulge too detailed personal information about me out there to a website, not even for family members or friends. I would, however, at least inform you via this email that I am very much a family person; my wife and I have been married for thirty-five years and we have four children.

I was a pre-med student at the Far Eastern University in Manila when I mailed my application to join the U. S. Navy. After meeting all the necessary requirements to join the U. S. Navy (passing a written test, personal interview, and physical exam), which took place during the period August through October 1962 when I was just a teenager, I reported to the U. S. Naval base at Sangley Point, Cavite, Philippines in January 1963 where I and fellow recruits awaited for transportation to boot camp at San Diego, California for initial enlisted military training. The rest is history as they say. A few years ago, I retired from the U. S. Navy as a Commissioned Naval Officer, as a full Commander.

Jun, you have to forgive my memory banks; I just can't recall you at all nor almost all of our former classmates. The only person I remember vividly amongst our classmates is Judy Tiam. That's because she is my first cousin on my father's side and we see each other every so often here in the U. S. Refresh my memory, name an occasion or an event where we collaborated. In the classroom, did you sit to my left, my right, in back of me, or in front of me? I would love to go back to my memory banks and reminisce of childhood days when life was somewhat simple and uncomplicated.

Although I am retired from the U. S Navy, I can't seem to stay away from participating in the activities of the work force. I am still fully employed and still working for Uncle Sam, as a civilian of course. I have also been dabbling in writing; I have written three books so far, two published and one to be published, hopefully, in January 2007.

If you were to "google" my name, "Arnie T. Tumaliuan," the title of the books I have written and how to acquire them would be revealed. "Arnie" has been my moniker and I have been called by that nickname by people I have been associated or associate with since June 1963. My full first name of course is still Aniano. I have also been dabbling in singing, I have been taking singing lessons since February 2002. A few friends of mine are trying to convince me to participate in a statewide singing contest. Well, if I gather enough "stage courage," I just might do so, hopefully, by next year.

I have always been a dreamer and I am not finish dreaming. My vision for my books is that one day they would start selling like hot cakes and that some movie producers, stateside or from overseas, from the Philippines maybe, would take interest in my stories and make movies out of them. As far as my singing is concern, for now, I am satisfied singing in nursing homes occasionally on weekends.

I would be totally remiss if I closed this email and not mentioned out loud that my successes in life I attribute solely to the Lord, my Lord Almighty. Jun, it was such a pleasure hearing from you; If you wish to share my email with former classmates or friends, it would be okay by me. In fact, I wish to convey to you and to all our former classmates and your families my most sincere and warmest regards.

Take care and God bless,

Arnie

Jun, here's a follow-up of the email I just sent. Thanks for the list of all 1959 graduates. I can visualize all my classmates but not the boys. I don't even know if Laureano Abungan is the eldest of the Abungan kids whose siblings include Vilma and Ellie. And, if so, I didn't realize he was in your class. I don't recall Severo Albano, Buenaventura Bunanig unless it's Ben Bunanig brother of Dolly, Nellie and Agnes, Gerardo Cabreros, Richtofen Culanag, Crispulo Dumo, Arturo Gabbuat, Romeo Logan, Higino Lorenzana, Virgilio Magno, Salvador Manuel, Domingo Pineda, Warlito Perdido, Rogelio Quirido, Abraham Rana, Antonino Santos and Rizalino Silao. I heard that Max Santos and Rudy Tallungan have passed on as well. Amongst the girls, Edith Fontanilla Genato is now deceased. I heard that Maria Santos and Carmelita Tito are now gone, too. In 2003 I had a reunion at home. In attendance were Perlas Bangad Olid, Purificacion Cansino Liquigan, Gloria Mateo, Virginia Almendra, Emiteria Paraguas (Terry), Araceli Salimpade Talay, Isabelo dela Cruz and Gario Valdez. We had a wonderful time!

It's my hope that lots of our classmates will attend the 2009 reunion that Conrado Salvador and Perlas Bangad Olid are organizing. Barring any obstacles or unforseen reasons, I plan to attend.

Take care,Judy

But, of course, you must know Richtofen! He's the (in)famous SMC Hi character aka Brutus! He's a gentle person, but loves acting brutish - which goes well with his dark, well built stature. Unfortunately, he's also gone now. I think he has a brother named Andrew, with quite the opposite mien: fair of complexion, slim but well built, and very urbane.

Severo is, if I recall right, transferred from Aritao- just can't recall when. Larry's Abungan's residence is on a diagonal with Buenaventura "Ben" Bunanig's, across a bridge on the Kulukul. In the 60's, Ben's brother was the victim of an unfortunate incident here in Pandacan that caused his demise. Ben went on to become manager of a PNB branch, I heard. I know all the boys that you mentioned ( but I fail to recall some of the girls in your section!) but for want of space I'll spare you the details. But you can email me latter for info on anybody who catches your fancy.

I remember Perlas Bangad and Carmelita Tito very well. They were not won't to take advantage of their height over me when we were in grade six! Those years some girls really sprouted and, somehow, I lagged! I am sad to hear that Carmelita is no longer around.

With the organization of this group I hope that we all will be always in touch, on-line nga makuna da and we all can gather at a moment's notice, be it to attend a festive class reunion or a sad unscheduled reunion at a wake. Just send me a line about what's happening and I'll post it here and, hopefully, somebody will take it up and spread the news.

Btw, Perlas and Conding can get in touch with me and we will spread the news about the up coming reunion in 2009. My phone numbers are PLDT 632 913 8694 and Smart 63 920 530 6122 and I live in QC at: 273 Kalantiao St. Project 4. Or you can give me their contact info and I'll get intouch with them! And also any of our more "timid" ex alumni and I'll try contact them to join "the SMC High Loop!"

Stay in touch!

Reunion Photos from Alice and Delbert Sagasay.

(My apologies to Alice and Delbert for the earlier mis-spelling. Jun)

Alice has posted some 31 pictures that she took during the reunion in July in Tacoma, Washington. here are a few samples. Meanwhile, could you, more knowledgeable colleagues help us identify those on the images? Funny how I could call out all your names without hesitation fifty years ago and now can only greet my next door neighbor with a lame "Tita? Is that you?" Sagot niya, "I'm sorry, the name is Terri!"

Don't get me wrong: Terri is still the sweet Tita of yore, she just picked up some sophistication since we all parted ways.

Where's the rest of the pics? It was originally from shutterfly on
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8Act3Dhu3ctX6w> from where you can directly order prints.

and I've stored a set on our group page (see the Photo section) on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SMCHigh59/ but only those who have registered can access them. How to register? Click on the above Yahoo URL/ address and, on the newly emerged page click on the blue "Join this group" button, wait for the verification result then click on "Photos" on the left!

Hello! It's been a while since I emailed you. The reunion preparation took the front seat in my life the last 2 weeks prior to the reunion itself. At the moment I've to attend to some souvenir program mailings then I can unwind briefly. Yes, briefly, cause I've 5 boxes of peaches to can possibly beginning this Sun. or Mon. One box is ripening fast. There's a certain ripening texture to peaches that eggs me to start canning.

Peaches, WOW! An advantage we don't have back here. I had a dinner guest in Saudi and peach was for desert. The cad couldn't wait till desert and just took it with rice and bagoong during the main meal! I almost cried: SACRILEGE! --- Jun

The reunion was a success. As in any gathering, positive and negative feedback follows. We're relieved to hear more positive comments than negative. It was extremely exhilarating to reconnect with some of our classmates. Attending were Terri dela Cruz Lacson, Leto Paluero Elviss,Vangie delos Angeles, Nena Ludan Dizon, Fely Tugab Escara ,Alice Medrano Sagasay, Minda Falguera Quitevis,Gene Rivera, Primo Costes, Arnie Tumaliuan, Fe Tengco Labayan and me. I thought there was 13 of us but I was wrong. Med Ordonez Guy, Ched Guntalilib Layon and Elnora Gurat Guyod could not attend. Still, our graduating class had the most attendance.

That is nice, that you hosted a successful affair and I had my fill of extra news, specially the girls' married names. Still, I counted 13 from our class including yourself. Med had something done on her knee, I heard.

Unfortunately, I was unable to spend much time visiting with everyone cause my co-hosts and I were busy seeing that everyone was having a great time. The 2008 reunion to be held in Las Vegas should be an opportune time to catch up with my visiting. I plan to attend unless something prevents me to.Hope all's well with you as it is with me and my family. My brother Fr. Vic is wrapping up his week long visit with my husband and me and will visit with my Auntie Fely and her husband next week until we, his siblings will have had our turn hosting him.

Please extend my regards to Fr. Vic, he's younger than you, isn't he? I seem to recall him now, from our school years! Jun

My pleasure, really. I love reading cookbooks, it is most rewarding. If you let your imagination loose as you read the recipe, you can almost savor the outcome. You know, I only cook what comes out excellent in the "imaginary" session.

We have three who have flown the coop and, interestingly, one unattached male still living with us, also aged 23! I hope their paths cross and .....

Sonny cooks better than me, so most often if Alice is around I beg her for some pinacbet or try to con her into moving near us or as we all the time tell her, we buy houses, she and Pare Del in the middle while Fely and I are on each side. Good idea, isn't it ? Too bad, she says no.

Ok, have to get back to work now.

Just got back from the reunion from Tacoma. It was really good to see classmates from 59. Among the boys, I mean Gentlemen, Gene Rivera surprised us by arriving, Primo Costes and his family and then Arnie Tumaliuan(Aniano). Among the Ladies: Judy TiamKegg, Perlita Paluero Elviss, Alicia Medrano Sagasay, Fely Tugab Escara, Erlinda Falguera Quitevis, Evangeline delos Angeles, Fe Corazon Tengco Labayen, and I guess yours truly , also Josephine Ludan Dizon. Some have changed in looks and some has remained the same and makes it easier to recognize them. It's kinda embarrassing when they introduce you to some of our classmates and you draw a blank. We were acting like girls attending prom. We also have the pleasure of meeting fellow Vizcainos. David Yalung came to me to say hi and right away I recognized him. Oh by the way, the guest speaker was Olivia Bayabos Valle, straight from the Philippines. She gave us a good update above our Ama Mater and that's with pictures showing SMU. The reunion was a success and the Tiams and Tumaliuans worked hard to ensure the success of the reunion. Before I forget to mention 2 Pilipino priest celebrated mass last Sunday during the picnic and last day of the reunion. Fr. Vic Tiam and Fr. Orlando Guzman also straight from the P.I. I wish I could tell you everything but it will be too long. The next reunion will be 2008 in Las Vegas and guess whose going to help Marians from Las Vegas? Class of 59 so I hope you could join us. O sige, till next mail. I don't want to take too much of your time, lol. Take care and regards.

I got married on 6/12/64 to the same man and my OAO bf since college (1 yr after graduation & am a CPA) and we've moved here to Chicago since 1972. We have 2 boys & 2 girls. Our eldest daughter, Christine is in Arizona & is in real estate. Anyone wanting to buy or sell real estate, pls let me know & I'll hook u up. Next, is my son Troy,( he sings and produces & write songs, in the 90's he wrote & sang some hip hop music & was popular then, but married life stop him from being a singer). He is co-owner of our Mortgage company here in Glen Ellyn, Illinois (West suburb in Chicago). My 2nd son, Michael will be moving to Arizona next month of which "he produced my OAO(one & only) grandson, Jordan Mykal, now 7yrs old. My youngest is Medeny who inherited my nickname & my husband's nickname combined is in the Air Force. Rey (my hubby's nickname here) & I also own a dance studio where we've been teaching ballroom dancing on weekends just for fun since July, 1993. We travel back & forth to our other house in Arizona and Rey wants to move there permanently.

I'm stubborn 'coz I love the 4 seasons so I've not made up my mind yet. I'm not ready to retire yet & I've always been a workoholic. It keeps me young. Altho' I've just had knee surgery on 6/30 but I'm recuperating steadily. Too bad I can't make it to the reunion in Tacoma but my spirit is w/ them.

Anyone that's in Chicago or will be in the vicinity, pls give me a call - res #630-653-8615 or my cell#630-973-9824. I will make sure I'm not around - kidding aside, pls let me know. It's nice to reminice the good old days.

Terri & I talk often on the phone as if there is no tomorrow. To all our class '59 members, join the fun of being one happy big family. Share us some tidbits of "do you know", "what we know" balita from home or abroad, and get us updated where u r, ur family, yourself, others? Maybe u can also share of others who may need our support, increase our comaraderie etc. We are now in that state of being "medium done" (as compared to steak, I will not say well done yet,) be more on the sharing state, more giving, forgiving and think more on the positive aspects going to the retirements stage of our lives.

Until then, as my hubby & I always say, keep on dancing and be happy!

Hi Jun! ! ! !

It is nice for your to have made up a way of getting most of our colleagues if not allto be able to read something about ourselves and recall the past. There are times that I am reminiscing how we were with childish acts, the High School strike, and many more.

Well, briefly about me - I worked with the Bureau Of Public Highways in Manila from1966 to 1973 and then left for U.S. I settled in New Jersey where i stayed ever since.I went back to the Philippines in June of 1974 to get married and back to N. J. after a month, the last was January of yr. 2001.

I got married to Salve, from Mindanao who I met during my stay there for my Highwayproject. We have 3 children - Michelle, Mike & Melissa. Only Michelle is now married where I have 2 grandchildren - Julia 5 yr. & Justin 2 yr.

When I first came to U.S., work in a Civil Engineering Co. where I started to work withjust enough pay to survive and struggled for advancement. I have proved to be same or equaled the knowledge of other engineers and kept on to aspire for progress. I movedto other companies then to The Port Authority Of New York & New Jersey. It was sometime when the World Trade Center was bomb during the first time and i was not in the building where i went out for lunch. I left my job in 1999 to join AMERCOM CORPORATION, Consulting Engineers because i felt it is for better.

In the end of the year 2000, The owner of the company offered me to buy the company but i can not afford it so I have asked other employees to put our money together aspartners and turned the ownership to us. I plan to retire 2 years from now so that i willturn over my ownership to my son who has been working in this company before I joined Amercom Corp.

I invite you to view my Company website: http://www.amercomcorp.comWe are busy on all types of Civil Engineering Project (HEADACHES too). Taking a vacation only means overload of work when back to work.

Tell me about yourself too and keep me in the loop for whatever developments come up.Regards to your family and everybody i know who you may meet.

The ladies were known earlier as the "De la Cruz Sisters," until they got married, that is. Seriously, they are Cora and Terri. So guess who the young man on the right is?

Hi Jun,

Good to hear from class 59 graduates after over 40 years. Thank the Lord for our health and may a few classmates rest in peace.

I tried to sign in for the blog but somehow I got error messages. It is an incorrect address.

My husband and I are in Arizona right now helping take care of grandchildren, 2 toddlers (boys) and a new born baby girl. Besides, my daughter and family (2 boys and a year old girl) are spending a week with us. Imagine all these very active toddlers to baby sit!!!!

I will be able to have more time to check and reply to my emails as soon as I get back home in California on July 23 after the SMU Grand Reunion to be held in Tacoma, Washington. Classmates attending the reunion are : Tita (Terri) Dela Cruz (? state)
Fely Tugab-Escara (California
Erlinda Falguera-Quitevis (CA)
Perlita Paluero-Elviss (Canada)
Judith Tiam-Kegg (Washington)
Evangeline Delos Angeles CA)
myself: Alice Medrano-Sagasay(CA)
Remedios Ordonez-Guy (Chicago), Mercedes Guntalilib-?(California). Eulogio Santos(Chicago), Jose Lopez(Canada), Primo Costes(California), Gil Guillermo(Florida), Apolinario Barba(California) and Isagani Covita(California) are not able to attend at this time.

Till then,
Alice

My, my! From this far I can almost feel your ire. I truly am sorry.

I've been busy trying to get the blog to work, then I would call/email you and everybody else. Terri, however, I email randomly. And if you point your browser to http://SMCClass59.blogspot.com , I've managed to post her last email to me.

In the last (I think!) email I got, you mentioned having joined the blog and this is great news! And I see Tita's name there, and Gene Rivera, too! But I am still looking for your entry, a glitch must have played some mischief? Don't you think?

I am still trying to solve "the mystery of the missing entry" but it does take time and the world is moving on and people are mad that I have ignored them! So let us start over and get things straightened out, ok?

At this point I've decided to cc: the email addresses that you have sent so as to let them know what has transpired. So to everybody: WELCOME to the SMC Class of 59 on the internet. So what do we have? To those familiar with blogs, we have http://SMCClass59.blogspot.com . So you email me at junmania@gmail.com and I'll share it with the gang or, if you are up to it, you may post your thoughts directly to our blog instead!

You have pictures to share, did you say? Again, attach them to me in an email and I will dessiminate them to the group. We do have a group page with yahoo where we can conveniently upload photos, and files, for example, I'll send the address to you all just as soon as I recall it.

TTYL, ingat.
