Hi Jun!It's me, Leto. Where are you? Are you in the Philippines or here in North America? I understand there are quite a few of us living here in NA, unfortunately, I only know of those who are in California.

THANKS for all your messages and pictures. Indeed, all who attended the SMU Reunion in Tacoma, Wash. had a great time, me included. I was really glad to have attended. It was great to meet former classmates, schoolmates and townmates. How I wish more of our classmates would have been there. I had not seen Terri since our high school graduation. However, I had a chance to see Fely, Minda, Alice, Nena, Vangie and Cheding a few years ago when we all met at Fely's house. It was unfortunate that Cheding and Med could not be there this time.

Hopefully, we will have as good attendance for the next renion in Las Vegas in 2008.Many at the reunion, I would have recognized immediately, but many I'm afraid have changed in appearance that I felt I needed to have them remind me who they were. However, since we were all from Bayombong, it was wonderful to get re-connected with everyone again. After the reunion, I stayed with Judy for another couple of days and we were able to catch up from where we left off since my last visit with her a few years back.

Of our former classmates, Judy and I keep in touch quite regularly by email, letter or phone.Again, thanks for your messages, I promise to keep in touch.

Take care & best regards,

Leto
It's Arnie Tumaliuan!

Hello Jun!

I am always up to my neck in alligators. Consequently, I am not always able to respond promptly to incoming correspondences. Also, I am a very security-minded, very cautious individual, an idiosyncrasy I developed from over three decades of serving in the military, the U. S. Navy. Hence, I just don't divulge too detailed personal information about me out there to a website, not even for family members or friends. I would, however, at least inform you via this email that I am very much a family person; my wife and I have been married for thirty-five years and we have four children.

I was a pre-med student at the Far Eastern University in Manila when I mailed my application to join the U. S. Navy. After meeting all the necessary requirements to join the U. S. Navy (passing a written test, personal interview, and physical exam), which took place during the period August through October 1962 when I was just a teenager, I reported to the U. S. Naval base at Sangley Point, Cavite, Philippines in January 1963 where I and fellow recruits awaited for transportation to boot camp at San Diego, California for initial enlisted military training. The rest is history as they say. A few years ago, I retired from the U. S. Navy as a Commissioned Naval Officer, as a full Commander.

Jun, you have to forgive my memory banks; I just can't recall you at all nor almost all of our former classmates. The only person I remember vividly amongst our classmates is Judy Tiam. That's because she is my first cousin on my father's side and we see each other every so often here in the U. S. Refresh my memory, name an occasion or an event where we collaborated. In the classroom, did you sit to my left, my right, in back of me, or in front of me? I would love to go back to my memory banks and reminisce of childhood days when life was somewhat simple and uncomplicated.

Although I am retired from the U. S Navy, I can't seem to stay away from participating in the activities of the work force. I am still fully employed and still working for Uncle Sam, as a civilian of course. I have also been dabbling in writing; I have written three books so far, two published and one to be published, hopefully, in January 2007.

If you were to "google" my name, "Arnie T. Tumaliuan," the title of the books I have written and how to acquire them would be revealed. "Arnie" has been my moniker and I have been called by that nickname by people I have been associated or associate with since June 1963. My full first name of course is still Aniano. I have also been dabbling in singing, I have been taking singing lessons since February 2002. A few friends of mine are trying to convince me to participate in a statewide singing contest. Well, if I gather enough "stage courage," I just might do so, hopefully, by next year.

I have always been a dreamer and I am not finish dreaming. My vision for my books is that one day they would start selling like hot cakes and that some movie producers, stateside or from overseas, from the Philippines maybe, would take interest in my stories and make movies out of them. As far as my singing is concern, for now, I am satisfied singing in nursing homes occasionally on weekends.

I would be totally remiss if I closed this email and not mentioned out loud that my successes in life I attribute solely to the Lord, my Lord Almighty. Jun, it was such a pleasure hearing from you; If you wish to share my email with former classmates or friends, it would be okay by me. In fact, I wish to convey to you and to all our former classmates and your families my most sincere and warmest regards.

Take care and God bless,

Arnie

Jun, here's a follow-up of the email I just sent. Thanks for the list of all 1959 graduates. I can visualize all my classmates but not the boys. I don't even know if Laureano Abungan is the eldest of the Abungan kids whose siblings include Vilma and Ellie. And, if so, I didn't realize he was in your class. I don't recall Severo Albano, Buenaventura Bunanig unless it's Ben Bunanig brother of Dolly, Nellie and Agnes, Gerardo Cabreros, Richtofen Culanag, Crispulo Dumo, Arturo Gabbuat, Romeo Logan, Higino Lorenzana, Virgilio Magno, Salvador Manuel, Domingo Pineda, Warlito Perdido, Rogelio Quirido, Abraham Rana, Antonino Santos and Rizalino Silao. I heard that Max Santos and Rudy Tallungan have passed on as well. Amongst the girls, Edith Fontanilla Genato is now deceased. I heard that Maria Santos and Carmelita Tito are now gone, too. In 2003 I had a reunion at home. In attendance were Perlas Bangad Olid, Purificacion Cansino Liquigan, Gloria Mateo, Virginia Almendra, Emiteria Paraguas (Terry), Araceli Salimpade Talay, Isabelo dela Cruz and Gario Valdez. We had a wonderful time!

It's my hope that lots of our classmates will attend the 2009 reunion that Conrado Salvador and Perlas Bangad Olid are organizing. Barring any obstacles or unforseen reasons, I plan to attend.

Take care,Judy

But, of course, you must know Richtofen! He's the (in)famous SMC Hi character aka Brutus! He's a gentle person, but loves acting brutish - which goes well with his dark, well built stature. Unfortunately, he's also gone now. I think he has a brother named Andrew, with quite the opposite mien: fair of complexion, slim but well built, and very urbane.

Severo is, if I recall right, transferred from Aritao- just can't recall when. Larry's Abungan's residence is on a diagonal with Buenaventura "Ben" Bunanig's, across a bridge on the Kulukul. In the 60's, Ben's brother was the victim of an unfortunate incident here in Pandacan that caused his demise. Ben went on to become manager of a PNB branch, I heard. I know all the boys that you mentioned ( but I fail to recall some of the girls in your section!) but for want of space I'll spare you the details. But you can email me latter for info on anybody who catches your fancy.

I remember Perlas Bangad and Carmelita Tito very well. They were not won't to take advantage of their height over me when we were in grade six! Those years some girls really sprouted and, somehow, I lagged! I am sad to hear that Carmelita is no longer around.

With the organization of this group I hope that we all will be always in touch, on-line nga makuna da and we all can gather at a moment's notice, be it to attend a festive class reunion or a sad unscheduled reunion at a wake. Just send me a line about what's happening and I'll post it here and, hopefully, somebody will take it up and spread the news.

Btw, Perlas and Conding can get in touch with me and we will spread the news about the up coming reunion in 2009. My phone numbers are PLDT 632 913 8694 and Smart 63 920 530 6122 and I live in QC at: 273 Kalantiao St. Project 4. Or you can give me their contact info and I'll get intouch with them! And also any of our more "timid" ex alumni and I'll try contact them to join "the SMC High Loop!"

Stay in touch!

Reunion Photos from Alice and Delbert Sagasay.

(My apologies to Alice and Delbert for the earlier mis-spelling. Jun)

Alice has posted some 31 pictures that she took during the reunion in July in Tacoma, Washington. here are a few samples. Meanwhile, could you, more knowledgeable colleagues help us identify those on the images? Funny how I could call out all your names without hesitation fifty years ago and now can only greet my next door neighbor with a lame "Tita? Is that you?" Sagot niya, "I'm sorry, the name is Terri!"

Don't get me wrong: Terri is still the sweet Tita of yore, she just picked up some sophistication since we all parted ways.

Where's the rest of the pics? It was originally from shutterfly on
http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8Act3Dhu3ctX6w> from where you can directly order prints.

and I've stored a set on our group page (see the Photo section) on
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SMCHigh59/ but only those who have registered can access them. How to register? Click on the above Yahoo URL/ address and, on the newly emerged page click on the blue "Join this group" button, wait for the verification result then click on "Photos" on the left!

If you are not successful, email me at maniajr@yahoo.com (or any of my listed emails, I read them all everyday!)

Hello! It's been a while since I emailed you. The reunion preparation took the front seat in my life the last 2 weeks prior to the reunion itself. At the moment I've to attend to some souvenir program mailings then I can unwind briefly. Yes, briefly, cause I've 5 boxes of peaches to can possibly beginning this Sun. or Mon. One box is ripening fast. There's a certain ripening texture to peaches that eggs me to start canning.

Peaches, WOW! An advantage we don't have back here. I had a dinner guest in Saudi and peach was for desert. The cad couldn't wait till desert and just took it with rice and bagoong during the main meal! I almost cried: SACRILEGE! --- Jun

The reunion was a success. As in any gathering, positive and negative feedback follows. We're relieved to hear more positive comments than negative. It was extremely exhilarating to reconnect with some of our classmates. Attending were Terri dela Cruz Lacson, Leto Paluero Elviss,Vangie delos Angeles, Nena Ludan Dizon, Fely Tugab Escara ,Alice Medrano Sagasay, Minda Falguera Quitevis,Gene Rivera, Primo Costes, Arnie Tumaliuan, Fe Tengco Labayan and me. I thought there was 13 of us but I was wrong. Med Ordonez Guy, Ched Guntalilib Layon and Elnora Gurat Guyod could not attend. Still, our graduating class had the most attendance.

That is nice, that you hosted a successful affair and I had my fill of extra news, specially the girls' married names. Still, I counted 13 from our class including yourself. Med had something done on her knee, I heard.

Unfortunately, I was unable to spend much time visiting with everyone cause my co-hosts and I were busy seeing that everyone was having a great time. The 2008 reunion to be held in Las Vegas should be an opportune time to catch up with my visiting. I plan to attend unless something prevents me to.Hope all's well with you as it is with me and my family. My brother Fr. Vic is wrapping up his week long visit with my husband and me and will visit with my Auntie Fely and her husband next week until we, his siblings will have had our turn hosting him.

Please extend my regards to Fr. Vic, he's younger than you, isn't he? I seem to recall him now, from our school years! Jun

Till next email. . .

Take care,

Judy

My pleasure, really. I love reading cookbooks, it is most rewarding. If you let your imagination loose as you read the recipe, you can almost savor the outcome. You know, I only cook what comes out excellent in the "imaginary" session.

We have three who have flown the coop and, interestingly, one unattached male still living with us, also aged 23! I hope their paths cross and .....

Stay in touch and ingat.

Hello Jun, thanks for forwarding the chinese food website. We do love Chinese food and also now Vietnamese soup. Sonny, my husband, loves soup, so most often on Fridays afterwork, or any day if we don't feel like cooking, we go for Chinese or Vietnamese food. Most often it is just me and Sonny because our kids, two are alreadymarried and on their own, and our youngest, our baby girl, (she's 23), lives with us, but likes pasta. You must be a good cook because of your interest in chinese cooking. Sonny cooks better than me, so most often if Alice is around I beg her for some pinacbet or try to con her into moving near us or as we all the time tell her, we buy houses, she and Pare Del in the middle while Fely and I are on each side. Good idea, isn't it ? Too bad, she says no.

Ok, have to get back to work now.

Kind regards,
