How is everything over there?

It has been nice weather here in the east coast for the past months considering that it is winter here. From the past ntil today Our tmperature was generaly 40 to 50 and sometimes went up to 70 but today and the comming months, we will experience 15 to 20 degrees which is way below freezing per the weather forecast. I am use to it except that i pity the young children going to school. It takes them too much time to dress up with warmer sweater/jackets and still suffer being outdoor. Lucky for you tita to be there to enjoy our warm hometown, openning young coconuts, buying Ice cream, going anywhere not worrying for anything.

When I was there in January of yr.2001, I was surprise with the change of Bayombong. It was so crowded with students, tricycles and buildings constructed all the way to the edge of sidewalk or streets. I did not realy appreciate the looks without any landscaping between the streets and houses. With what i saw it is not stopping me to come there again to see most of you if not all who are still strong and kicking. I do not have anybody to stay with (relative) but with you over there i will still be able to sleep in somebody's coach. Tita, in case you happen to see our classmate ROGELIO QUERIDO who was in Bonfal 47 years ago, please extend him my regards.

Regards,

GENE

Hello and Good morning! Yes, today is going to be another great day despite the freezing temp and icy driveway and roads. We've had an unusual winter so far and who knows how many more snowfalls we'll have in the low lying areas. Our mountains are deep in snow to the delight of ski resort owners, skiiers and snowboarders. And, how's the weather been there?

We've 2 years of planning for the 50th reunion. I agreed to join the planning committee here and offered to coordinate any communications amongst us and will relay ongoings to you. Let me ask you again for the copy of the form/survey you sent cause I absentmindedly cleared my folder and deleted quite a bit of emails. I'm aware that Fely mailed an individual copy of the original to us. I realize that you've received Pepe and mine. Don't be disheartened, discouraged or frustrated if you've not received the rest yet. From my personal experience of having been one of the hosts of our reunion in summer of 2006, alumni tend to respond 6 months prior to the reunion; some the last month or last minute and just show up. Lots of letters,
phone calls and emails were made. My co-hosts and I were determined to make the reunion a success and never once faltered in our attempt to follow through with obtaining as many registrations as we possibly can. I'll do my best to work with Terri, Remy and Fely, the planning committee here. In the meantime, I'll wait for the original survey form from you.

Enjoy your day as I will mine.

Take care,
Judy

It has been a hectic first week of the year for me cause of the
past year end not being at the office since I took off from work
Dec. 26 to 29 when my wife and I went to Las Vegas.

I was able to talk to (Pepe)-JOSE LOPEZ. last Sunday 1/6/07
and his phone no. is (905) 579 - 4055. Pepe is in Canada,
which is about an hour drive from Toronto. My Family Clan
will have a Grand Family Reunion in Blue Mountain Resort
which is (maybe) about 2 hours drive from Pepe so that he
and his family may meet with me or I may go to see him.
I mentioned him the planed SMC reunion and he said that
he is interested. We had a long conversation talking about
all of us trying to remember all of our classmates names,
nicknames, family names, where they use to live, how
we look at present with thin hair (I lost plenty already)
and being a grandparent of 2 children etc.

It's another year! Welcome 2007!

Med's email may well set the tone for SMC Class 59's direction: Towards A Better World Understanding, The Filipino As Citizen of the World!

Alice is not very happy, neither is Conding (pls let me call him such, it's how I addressed him back in our school days: without the "r".) But bottom line is, both are striving for a "fantastic 2009 Golden Reunion!" So let's all forget the differences and work on our common, strong points. Let us tell the world that SMC Class 59 is working on and will have the grandest reunion of all! And the show is neither yours nor mine, it is for each and every surviving member of SMC High School Class of 1959!

No, we will not just forget the ruffled feathers, Conding has asked me over to his place (in Pagasa, QC) so we can thresh it out. So you'll hear from us in the next few days, girls.

I talked to Perlas yeasterday afternoon, my "hard copy" of Alice's piece (snail mailed Thursday) had not yet arrived. No Viginia, I was not surprised. Now we are studying ways to get them (NV) up to speed. Hey, you're there, Terri! Any suggestions?

Any suggestion for the "battle cry" for SMC Class of 59? May I suggest: "We'll do it!"

Ingat.

Jun

Hi there my '59 classmates? Happy New Year to all! Hope you enjoyed the holidays and ignored making your New Year's Resolution. May you all be in good health, self-sufficient and contented and also your loved ones

I had a chance to meet finally in person Terri dela Cruz Lacson & sis, Cora; Jun Mania, Gerry Cabreros (these 2 guys did not change much, they r both still young looking); Maria Luisa Delgado & hubby after 47 long years at the Kamayan on December 3, 2006, Sunday. We had a good time (and we forgot it was already closing time in the mall) reminiscing the past, and talking about the present as well as the future reunion that we hope to do, and of course of the other 2 people ( Condring & Arturo Garingan) who promised to show up but never did. Medyo natakot yatang magpakita sa akin. Condring's reason was he slipped earlier in the day and got hurt and Arthur had car trouble.

Of course of the three ladies mentioned above including myself, we kinda changed and increased in dress sizes but I'd say its for the better. We don't look "malnourished anymore."

I read your (Alice) "truthful & very open" message to Condring or is it Conding(?) and I do agree that his message lack finesse. However...let's keep in mind that life is too short, for tomorrow we may be gone. So, let's forgive and forget (tho' I know it's not easy to do) and set aside the "ignorant remarks said and written" which may not be intentional and should not be read in context but try to read between the lines and emolliate the better understanding of a beautiful message. Maybe what he really meant was said differently because of the loss of translation or of a better word to express the good intention of a successful reunion that he is organizing with our help and cooperation. As the saying goes " laki-lakihan mo ang pasensiya."

For us here outside the Philippines, let us join cooperatively and pursue the 50th high school anniversary for old times sake and to see our Alma Mater again in our hometown. I've asked Jun Mania to coordinate with the local participants and we in turn should coordinate with our folks here in the U.S..and Canada etc. It will be a double "Wami" on our part considering that we are also the host of the 2008 reunion in Las Vegas. Maybe between the four of us to start, we can form mini committees who will be in charge of what. Are you three game on this? I'm sure we have enough time to plan for both reunions and get also the suggestions of other members. How about it ladies? I know from the grapevine that Alice is a super organizer and communicator (as well as a super Lola, isn't it wonderful to have grandchildren?).

Let's all join hands and remember our good intentions and wholeheartedly show the best example to our colleagues and friends our good natured attitude for the betterment of everyone and for the success of our forthcoming reunions.

Till then my friends,

Med Ordonez Guy a.k.a. Remy O. Guy

I thought that this, Alice's email of 2 January 2007, should be known by everyone so I have put together into one "hardcopy" for (Ph)snail mail to the secretariat and the chairman. This is for those with email addresses.

Hi all,

Sorry folks, I had problems with my computer so my first emails were messed up. This will be better because both attachments are in one email. Sorry for the inconvenience.

The attachment is a letter from Condring Salvador referring to all classmates abroad, and my response to his letter.

Dear Mr. Chairman,

Thank you for sending Christmas greetings.

It is a great idea to plan for the golden jubilee class 59. I sent in my survey response to Perla at her Bayombong address. Apparently the letter must have been a victim of Phil. postal theft which happens. Just to be sure, I responded again thru the website in care of Jun Mania and emails sent to you which you never cared to respond (email address furnished by you).

I am totally astounded at the tone and contents of your letter. Immediately, my brains kicked back 60 years ago, young innocent school children being scolded and possibly even punished. Your letter was totally blunt and unacceptable. Hope you did not forget that most of us are now retired and even if we are young, we deserved to be informed in a more civil and courteous manner. Your expression obviously reflects a bad organizing experience!

I organized our grand family reunion with 250 family members attending with great success and full of wonderful memories, co-chaired SMU and Adamson University reunions to name a few. We catered everyone with respect, patience, all the TLC, make them feel important and in every way implore, just to have a successful turnout. The key is patience and regular communication for a successful affair.

Perhaps it is beneficial to set the golden reunion date, preferably in the cooler months like mid January through early February, or summer as planned and outline the proposed activities so everyone know what to expect. This is one way of alleviating your stress. In my past experience people respond at the last minute, just plan and count the classmates in the Phil. who plan to attend first, and then work on the others elsewhere. If you want a big turn out, stay cool and be more pleasant and convincing in your letters. Everyone will appreciate that.

Respectfully,
Alice Medrano-Sagasay

ALICE -

FLASH NEWS for you and inform our other classmates out there.... Tita dela Cruz or Terri as Jun Mania calls her . . . , came home last mid-October (last month) as "balikbayan." Jun Mania and I met her at SM Mall with her 3 relatives. The 7 of us took lunch together. And mind you! - Tita ordered food for a dozen people! Wow! Look at her eat and pay the bills!

Tita went home to Bayombong for the "UNDAS"! She organized a mini-reunion last November 4th. The "energetic" Tita (as I call her) went house-to-house - one-on-one campaign for the mini-reunion. She sponsored the food catering and we - the boys supplied RED WINES and FUNDADOR Brandys - and you should have seen the Bayombong girls drink wine with glee. After getting tipsy - you should have heard them laughing to their hearts' content (everybody became noisy!) a credit for Tita.

Thru the initiative of Jun Mania - the SMC class 59 proposed Golden Reunion is now in the Internet! He uploaded almost 40 pictures in the yahoo group! Jun is one kind of computer bug! He can let-go his wife but you can never force him to stand-up and leave his computer just-like that!

The plan for the reunion is alright but I am so disappointed with your reactions - you people out there! I am asking you to read again my letter-proposal w/ the attached comment sheet!

I started mailing/sending my letter-proposal with the attached comment sheet for individual filling-up and be mailed back to the Secretariat in Bayombong. (that was in December 1, 2005!) We need the accomplished comment sheet to serve as a basis of evaluation for further plans of activities and to determine the size of the group. To my dismay - NO COMPLIANCE FROM ALL OF YOU! Only two (2) complied so far!! Jose "Pepe" Lopez and Judith Tiam! You don't seem to be interested!

This is all for now. I wish everybody out there - Good Luck - Good Health and God Bless You!
